Origami Cherry Blossom

As promised, here are some pictures of the cherry blossoms Liz and I have been working on. We are planning on using these as the center piece on every table at the restaurant.

We were still a little unsure what colour to use for the base of the flowers so I made these samples ones so see what looks the best. Everybody thinks the green looks too fake and the brown doesn't stand out enough in pictures so I think we are going with the red.

It's been a really long while........

Holy Crap!! We started this blog like half a year ago and this is my first post (Liz please don’t kill me)

Anyway, its been a while since our last update but guess there wasn’t much to report….until now *dun dun dun…*

So here is what we’ve done since the last update.

  1. The videographer is booked.
  2. The wedding officiant we are considering has a pretty interesting back ground. Apparently he does TV shows and commercials. His website has his filmography and it said he’s been on Smallville (that’s pretty freaken cool)...I hope he really is a officiant and not just an actor playing an officiant cause it would suck to find out on the day of our wedding. Anyway we are meeting with him tomorrow night for a little chat and if all goes well, we’ll be booking him.
  3. We’ve finally started putting together the origami blossoms. I think it looks pretty good…but that maybe because I made them. I will post some pictures of it tomorrow or something.
  4. We started making the wine. It’s a 6 week wine and we started it in the beginning of January so it should be ready to bottle sometime this week. We’ll let you know if there are any interesting stories to tell about that and if there isn’t, I will make something up.
  5. Cars, cars, cars. I think this is only topic I had full control over. And by full control I mean if I wanted to get married in a 1986 Datsun Liz will say “ok” (well, probably not but you get my point). So I have been doing a lot of research and I have been trying to find a place that rents out Mercedes. Particularly the CLS550 or S550. If you don’t know why they look like go check it out. I think the S550 would look better as a wedding car but I love the CLS550. I asked around and looked online and found several places where I can rent Mercedes and other exotic cars: VIP Rental, Platinum Car Rental, the place in Richmond on No.3 Road. Turns out they are all one and the same. Only place in the lower mainland to rent nice cars (other than BMWs) is that stupid place in Richmond on No.3 Road and they don’t have anything suitable for a wedding. So I started looking at BMWs but a 7 series is going for $2000/day. That’s like 3 months rent for an apartment for one day on a car WTF!!! That’s just as bad, if not worst than buying a Ferrari (Ferrari=$300,000 House=$300,000). Needless to say, we are not spending that much money on a stupid car for one day so we are going with a SUV limo. It works out better anyway. We don’t have to worry about fighting through traffic, find parking space or losing any of the wedding party. It was a good decision….*sigh*…I think Liz secretly knew that it would be impossible to rent a nice car.
  6. We still only have a whopping 4 items on the gift registry and one of which I have to remove because my mom has an extra one she wants me to take. I guess this is something we need to work on.
  7. Flowers are ‘picked” out. Ok that was lame. We went to the nursery and florist place on King George and they were very helpful in helping us pick out what flowers to use in the bouquets and boutiner. The only bad think is we can’t pick up the flowers until 8:30 the morning of the wedding.
  8. And last but not least, Liz’s dress. She finally made a decision on one and we bought it today…well actually I bought it. I went with her to the bridal store this morning and sat in the waiting area until I was needed. At that point whipped out the credit card, closed my eyes and signed the receipt. I have no idea what he dress looks like but that’s ok. I want to be surprised anyway.

So that pretty much sums up what’s been going on the last 2 months (actually most of this happened in the last 2 weeks).

134 days….wow we are about a month away form the count down being 2 digits…yikes!

So...it's been a while...

WOW. I guess it’s December now.

Let’s review what we’ve accomplished:

…no that’s depressing.

Let’s take a look at what we’re working on right now:

  1. Save-the-dates! Yes! Be expecting those this Christmas!
  2. Wine-making – we’ve picked out the place we’re using. Now we just have to figure out which ones we want! Anybody knowledgeable with wines wanna put in their 2 cents? We’re having trouble deciding which ones would be good to eat with Chinese food!
  3. Dress-shopping – this has been put on hold until the New Year because that’s when White Day has new stuff out! =D
  4. Gift registry – well, we’ve got a bit of a start on this one – we’ve registered at The Bay! We’ve now gone twice to scan stuff in…and we’ve scanned in a grand total of 4 items! …you laugh now, but you’d be surprised how difficult it is to pick out household appliances! AND the craziest part is, I’ve learned that Sunny is even picker than me!! (I know what you’re thinking, and I’ve asked him. The answer is: no, he’s it not gay.)
  5. Cake – going to get a quote from the place I want it from
  6. Flowers – found waaay too many places in Surrey – any recommendations?
  7. And last but not least, FLOWER FOLDING – thank you in advance for all the people who have volunteered! We’ll be having folding parties soon enough! Special thanks to Dave who picked up origami paper for us from Granville Island!

Okay, that’s enough to keep my head spinning for now!

Photographer Booked!!

Ok, it’s been a while since we’ve worked on anything for the wedding. I guess it’s because we’ve been more focussed on the condo!

Today Sunny and I finally paid our deposit for the photographer to secure our date! That’s really exciting! The rates have actually gone up a little bit since the last time we were there! We’re lucky she gave us the old price! =D We’re probably gonna take our engagement photos in April. Sunny, that means we have 6 months to get fit again! Sorry Greg. No more all-you-can-eat fish and chips. You’re just gonna have to get cancer without us! =P

Not much more’s gonna be going on in the next while. I won’t be dress shopping again until January. Sunny and I are going to be working on the artwork for our save-the-dates soon, so we should have those done in the next few weeks!

Now for the REALLY fun part…HONEYMOOOON!!!!

So we’re thinking of going on a Mediterranean cruise! We both want to see Europe, but being the lazy people we are, we don’t want to have to deal with moving from one hotel to the next and we DEFINITELY don’t want to be staying at hostels for our honeymoon, for many MANY reasons. Soo, cruising Europe seems to be the best solution! We basically travel at night on the ship and get off at a different port each day!

Sounds great so far, but the bad part about it is that we only get ONE day in each city, which might not be enough for some places. So I think we might add on a few more days in Europe either before or after the cruise so that we get the most out of this trip. To all the Europe-experts out there: where do you guys think we’d want to stay for more than one day?

Also, the cruise that we find most appealing so far is with Royal Caribbean. I know Mike and Tracy had a great time on their cruise with them so I’m not too worried, but I do want to get more opinions on them! Has anybody else travelled with them before or know people who have? Are there any issues that I should watch out for? Thanks guys!

Bouquet Madness

So for those who don't already know, I've kinda picked out a flower for my bouquet! It's a natural blue flower called the aquilegia vulgaris or the common columbine.

I picked it because of its colour and because it's the flower of Venus! Pretty cute eh!

I found the flower yesterday at a few small flower shops downtown so I bought a small bundle. The bad thing about them is that I'll have to have a bouquet holder for sure, because they don't last long without water. :( But otherwise, I like it! It's really different! AND, it has a story! You KNOW how I love it when things have a story! ^_^d
