Cocktail Reception Activities?

Can anybody tell me what goes on at the cocktail reception after the wedding ceremony? Are we supposed to have things planned (e.g. speeches, games) or are we just supposed to let people mingle? I'm thinking the bulk of the games will be done at the dinner reception, same with the speeches. So what do we do then?

You know...we ARE on a golf course j/k I would never dream of golfing on our wedding day *cough cough*. So any ideas for activities for the cocktail reception and dinner banquet would be much appreciated.

... actually, I think you let people mingle while you and ur families take photo's on the course. The wedding party won't really get to mingle with the guest until the dinner.

So I guess no activities then? I guess that's okay? Steph and I came up with a couple different schdules for the day, and it doesn't look like we'll have a lot of time there anyway. So that's fine!

Normally (or the ones I've been to at least) after the ceremony, the bride and groom just goes off and take pictures with family and friends... the guests either stay behind to watch and mingle or just leave...

Another thing, to avoid confusion, maybe you guys can post a 'Program List/Agenda' or whatever its called to let guests know what to expect at certain time.

Ya we're going to have to have that for sure for the dinner reception. Are you talking about the wedding ceremony/cocktail reception too though?
